What is Rotary ?

Rotary is an international humanitarian organisation founded by Paul Harris in 1905 in Chicago, USA.
It has more than 1.4 million members and professionals of solidarity representing all
sectors of the world economy in 46,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries
and territories on 5 continents.
Through its Foundation and its clubs, Rotary mobilizes its members around seven
strategic areas of intervention to bring about lasting change in the world:

drinking water supply, sanitation and hygiene

maternal and child health

literacy and education

Every year, the Rotary movement raises $200 million for sustainable altruistic projects throughout the world

The purpose of Rotary is to encourage and cultivate the ideal of service as the
basis of all honorable enterprise. In particular we seek to encourage and cultivate:

The development of personal friendly relationships between its members with a view
to provide them with opportunities to serve the general interest.​ -
Observation of moral rules of high probity and sensitivity in the exercise
of any profession; recognition of the dignity of any useful occupation; the effort
to honour one's profession and raise its level so as to better serve society. -
The application of the ideal of service for every Rotarian in his personal, professional and social life.

International mutual understanding, goodwill and the promotion of peace, creating and maintaining throughout the world, cordial relations between representatives of various professions, united ideally to serve.

Welcome to our club, founded in 2009 by a group of volunteers from Excideuil and its region, eager to get involved in local, national and international humanitarian actions.
​
The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Club House of the Domaine d'Essendiéras in the municipality of Saint-Médard-d'Excideuil.
​
The club currently has 16 members, men and women, from various professional backgrounds and 4 different nationalities.

Rotary District 1740.

Our club is one of 58 Rotary clubs in 10 departments of central France, including the Dordogne. The first club of the district was that of Vichy, founded in 1925. The Governor of the district 2023/2024 is Jean-Philippe Duroché of the Rotary Club of Riom ChatelGuyon.

Le premier Rotary Club a été fondé par Paul Harris et trois collègues à Chicago, aux États-Unis en 1905. Aujord'hui, Rotary International est une association qui rassemble 46 000+ clubs en 2023, présents dans près de 200 pays et régions géographiques. L'ensemble de ces clubs Rotary compte plus de 1,4 million membres, appelés "Rotariens".
